Is a tight budget restricting you from healthy living? It happens to many of us. After all, it’s very easy, and inexpensive, to eat and live unhealthily. Whether it’s purchasing healthier alternatives for our diets, obtaining necessary supplements, or paying the gym fees, they’re times when we have to carefully juggle our funds. Sometimes knowledge comes by way of experiences. Hopefully my suggestions, based on my experiences, can help many of you who can relate or who are thinking about commencing a healthy lifestyle on a tight budget. Here are some pointers to help one get through a little tough financial times while simultaneously trying to live a healthy lifestyle:
- Avoid the marketing hype from supplement companies, reputable ones inlcuded. The latest dietary supplements are not always the “best thing since sliced bread.”
- Purchase inexpensive supplements that actually work. Two that come to mind are DHEA and BCAA’s
- Fad diets don’t work therefore do not hesitate to purchase healthy, inexpensive staples such as wheat germ, rolled oats, legumes, ground provisions, whole wheat bread, chicken, tuna, vegetables, peanut butter.
- As most multivitamins have very low potencies of each vitamin/mineral, especially for people with active lifestyles, purchasing vitamins/minerals individually is more beneficial and less expensive. Vitamin C, Cod Liver Oil, Calcium w/ Magnesium+D, B Complex, are a few of the ‘foundational’, basic ones. My advice is to purchase from reputable companies as they generally use quality ingredients and their manufacturing practices aren’t suspect. In my opinion, a couple of reputable and affordable companies to purchase from is NOW Foods and Jamieson Vitamins.
- Paying one’s gym fee for every six months, three months, or even one month works out to be less money spent than if paying by the day(one time sessions). Naturally it would be a sacrifice for many however, if it’s any consolation, life always involves sacrifices, to varying degrees, and making one’s health a priority is one of them. As I frequently state, “there’s nothing going on in your life that’s more important than your health. Nothing“.
I hope that the few preceding pointers help, to any extent, my fellow gym members out there, aspiring ones too, and that a healthy lifestyle that involves resistance exercises/weight training and proper dietary supplementation becomes a lifelong passion. Have fun:)
