Gym know‑how plus science makes your workouts far more effective. At the gym, advice is everywhere, from supplements to training routines, but not all of it is reliable. The smartest approach is to combine what actually works in practice with what research confirms. That’s how you make choices that deliver real results.
Plenty of people sound confident when giving fitness tips, but confidence doesn’t equal accuracy. Even experienced gym‑goers sometimes spread misconceptions, like claiming that strength training isn’t suitable for older adults or that women who lift weights will suddenly become “too masculine.” That’s why it pays to double‑check what you hear against evidence backed by science.
My own guidance comes from both lived experience and science‑guided training. Reading about fitness is useful, but until you put it into practice, you don’t see the full picture. In my my book, Dedicated to A Strength Training Life: Strength Training is Key to Maintaining Good Health , I share decades of lessons from the gym and research, a resource for anyone serious about building lasting health through strength training.
With over 25 years of weight training and supplement use, I’ve seen firsthand how strength workouts, paired with the right support, form the backbone of good health. On my blog, I explore topics ranging from supplement use to slowing aging with strength training, preventing or reversing type 2 diabetes, and even the realities of anabolic steroids.
Still, I encourage everyone to do their own homework. Don’t take my word, or anyone else’s, at face value. Make sure the information you follow is backed by science and fits your personal needs.
As Leroy Colbert once said: “There’s nothing, absolutely nothing that can take the place of experience. I’m not putting out this information to entertain, but to inform.” Next time you hear advice at the gym, ask yourself: does it match both science and practice? That simple check can save you time, effort, and keep your fitness journey on track.
